In the return leg between Bahrain and Malaysia, things got feisty early on. Both teams had a player ejected in the 12th minute. Bahrain lost Abdulrahman and Malaysia lost Zafuan Abd Radzak. Despite this initial wackiness, the games itself was devoid of action, resulting in a scoreless draw and the advancement of Bahrain to round three.
Turkmenistan did better than its 1-0 victory in Phnom Penh, eliminating Cambodia from the World Cup with a big win, 4-1. Still, Cambodia put early pressure on the host team with an early goal that tied the aggregate at one. A late goal before the half leveled the game, and from there the Turkmenis went on the advance.
In an utterly dominant performance at home in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates shamed Vietnam. In what was the most anticipated match of the day, Ismail Matar came up with an all-world performance for his country. He started the scoring with a beautiful strike from outside of the penalty box. Next, he played a nifty no-look pass with the back of his heel that resulted in goal number two. In the second half, his perfect cross to the head of a teammate gave UAE a 3-0. In stoppage time, he drove into the penalty area and drew a foul, which resulted in a penalty goal the ended the scoring at 5-0. UAE are off to round three.
Qatar soundly finished off its tie with Sri Lanka with a comprehensive 5-0 win at home. At 3-0 in the second half, the Sri Lankans went down a man as Raheem was evicted for a second yellow. Two men scored braces for Qatar. Qatar now advance straight to round three.
